They trying to get us up outta here y'all. Every 28 hours a black man is murdered by a police officer or white vigilante in this country we call America.
Travis Faison was a 26 year old beloved father, son, and friend. He was gunned down yesterday when a Sanford, NC police office knocked on his door to serve a warrant. We know the officer was not wearing a body camera. They have turned the case over to the State Bureau of Investigations as of this morning. I will stay informed.
Randall Kerrick, the white cop who murdered Jonathan Ferrell in 2013, is due in court today. The only officer who has ever been indicted for killing a black man in Charlotte in 30 years. Protests haven't been that prevalent here in Charlotte, be it from apathy, comfort, or reassurance from this indictment.
Disclaimer: This is state-sanctioned murder, and if you're black and living, you will sooner or later become a target. Your money or car or neighbor or job can't save your black ass.
This hurts on a whole 'nother level. I'm tired of crying for black men who I will never know but in my heart. Tired of white folks acting like their peace is worth our death. I am empowered by the knowledge that I will never get tired of fighting for my freedom. I keep hearing that 'all cops aren't bad' and that 'police don't target black people'...first off, the institution of the police is directly borne from slave patrols, put in place to control black people's movements. Second, the police are only here to protect white property and interests. "Protect and serve" is only a motto produced from a contest in 1955 for the LAPD. IT IS NOT WHAT THEY ARE SWORN TO DO ON A DAILY BASIS. This is nothing new. The audacity and arrogance with which the police flaunt their "authority" is so galling to me that I cannot continue to silently protest. Everyone should do their part if they support the movement, whether you inform co-workers, go to marches, or donate money and time; this is mine. And if you don't support it, then you really shouldn't be reading my blog.
FOOTNOTE: I really do not hate all white people. :)
